BHA is working with a specialist regional developer to regenerate a former leisure site in the central district of Chatham immediately adjacent to a conservation area and in proximity to numerous listed buildings. The site is bounded by New Road on the south flank and the proposal for this is to create a new terrace of high townscape quality on this boundary. Behind this will be a semi-private court with hard landscaping and planting at the rear of which will be a further terrace of single aspect row houses constructed over an underground car park. Vehicle access will be to the rear from other highway on the north boundary. The design of the houses facing New Road acknowledges their historical setting, that of the rear row is contemporary – all use brickwork as the principle facing material.
